This project was a really interesting exercise for me to meditate on the concept of Home. Is my home the town I grew up in, Roseville, California? Or is it Santa Barbara, where I live now and plan to for the next few years? Or is home not even a place, but the people I find myself at home with?
This piece combines posters from my hometown bedroom as well as parking passes from garages in downtown Santa Barbara. The form is a model of my car, which passes thorugh each place, and also contains memories with people that I find home with. These items all represent the feeling of homesickness, while at the same time not really knowing where home is.
The piece also measures my history of the places I have been. The posters represent an old version of my hometown room that no longer exists. The parking passes, each with their bar codes and dates, pin point exact moments when memories in Santa Barbara were made.
